Links of the week

Photobucket

You know what's worse than being sick? Getting sicker. You know what's worse than getting sicker? Getting your husband sick. You know what's worse than getting your husband sick? Getting your baby sick. You know what's worse than getting your husband and baby sick? Having to clean old turnip green juice off of your foot 3 times! Three times! Okay, so maybe that's not worse than getting your baby sick, but it's pretty bad.

Anyway, I intended to start this series earlier in the week but sickness took over. Some of you may be familiar with Google Reader and the recent changes they implemented, so you know that you can no longer share blog posts with your friends through Reader. I loved this feature, now they want you to share through Google+. I think it's just to try and get more people to join +, since it hasn't really caught on like they hoped. So, since I can't share posts I like with you through Google Reader anymore, I'll be sharing them in a weekly post such as this. Let me know what you think, and if you have your own blog and share links weekly feel free to comment with the link to that post.

  • Tsh at Simple Mom posted some tips on planning a peaceful Christmas. She writes about prioritizing what you want to do as a family, budgets, and making sure that your plans aren't so hectic that you're not having fun.
  • Here is a good post on wanting more (attention, acknowledgement, etc) and how we already have "enough".
  • This LifeHacker post is about honey and why you should buy local (hint: it's so you actually get honey). We always buy local honey, how about you?
  • I just think this post from the "Cool Parents" is neat, I would love to have a random run-in with a reader that I didn't know. I would also love to live in New York, then maybe my blog would be cooler and more people would read it. All the best bloggers live in NY.
  • I've been wanting to DIY some Christmas stockings for our little family. Right now we don't have stockings at all. Here is a Babble post with a lot of great DIY Christmas stocking ideas. I also have some on my Christmas pinboard.

What have you enjoyed reading this week?

Oh, you know what else is terrible? Husband and I managed to eat 23 muffins in 6 days. Yeah.

Walking 'round in winter underwear

Sing it to the tune of "Walking in a Winter Wonderland." Okay? Now you got it.

deer
Deer or reindeer?

The other day I bought some new unders, you know, panties. When husband saw them he made some comment about them being Christmasy. What? These are Christmas unders?

This isn't the first time this has happened. Either I have a thing for unknowingly buying Christmas unders or husband has a thing for seeing Christmas themes in things which are not Christmas themed. I am the observant one, but on these occasions I find myself questioning my shape interpretation.

I see deer and stars, husband sees reindeer and snowflakes. I see fireworks, husband sees snowflakes. I see patterns like you'd find on a Native American/Pendleton blanket composed of tiny hearts, husband sees Christmas trees and yes, more snowflakes. If those are Christmas trees, they're upside down by the way. I bought three pair in that same print cause I liked it so much, the idea of it being Christmas theme never crossed my mind. These aren't all Christmas colored either, mind you, only 2 are red and white.

Sure, I could find theme online and see what the color/print is called and then know if they really are Christmas unders, but do I want to know? If they are Christmas unders I wouldn't feel right wearing them year-round. It's like that time when my then-boyfriend said I looked "festive" because I was wearing a red sweater. I was just a plain, solid red sweater, but every time I wore it thereafter I thought of what he said. It irked me.

The Christmas Post

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and at least took some time to remember why we really celebrate it.
Sure, you constantly hear people say "Jesus is the reason for the season," and see plenty of church signs with the same statement, but is that really at the forefront of our minds this time of year. I admit I haven't spent as much time focused on Christ or in the celebration of His birth as I should. It's so easy to get caught up in earthly celebrations of gifts, food, and even that of family. Not that there's anything wrong with celebrating family (or food, or how blessed we are to be able to give and receive gifts), but let us not forget what it's all about. Celebrate and have joy in our Savior!

Tomorrow I will be leaving for Ocala to go to Holiday Youth Convention. I made a sort-of last minute decision to go; I'm getting to old for it and I figured if I didn't go this year, I would definitely feel too old to go next year—not that there won't be other older than I there, there definitely will be.
I'm bringing my laptop along in hopes that there will be free wireless in the hotel, but with the expectation that I won't have much time to use it anyway.

Christmas Shopping

The best part about Christmas shopping yesterday:

Walking past someone and overhearing her say, "Well, we are in Alabama, hun," after saying the same thing at least 5 times myself.

Save the Worst for Last

My last final is tomorrow, the much-dreaded history final. I've never done well in history and this professor's "fit as much non-chronologically relayed information into an hour and 15 minutes as possible with no discussion" method does not help me.

After tomorrow I will be free until January 7. Here's some of the things I'm going to be doing:

·A lot of reading
·Relaxing
·Watching movies
·Moving my site to Wordpress (real Wordpress with real hosting, w00t!)
·Making my Christmas list
·Shopping (hopefully)
·Eating!

Oh yeah, if you have this site bookmarked with any url other than http://ohbuoyancy.net change your bookmark to that now as any other address will quit working when I switch to Wordpress over the next couple days. Also if you subscribe to the rss feed it will no longer work, so check http://ohbuoyancy.net to see what the new feed is.

Christmas

A Jones Soda Christmas

Christmas was good I guess. We had a good time mostly, and I got great presents. It had its low points: Parents fighting (more than usual); my computer died at the same time I installed by new TV capture card I got for Christmas, had to order a new power supply on top of all my other expenses as of late; I ended up not going to Holiday Youth Convention this year, because of money and having work to do, plus I think I'm getting sick.

Everyone had a good time at Christmas dinner though, one of the high points was a bunch of family sampling the holiday pack from Jones Soda. There is dinner roll, pea soup, turkey and gravy, sweet potato, and antacid flavored sodas; the faces everyone made was the best.

Early Christmas

Amy and I exchanged gifts tonight since she was in town. She gave me three packages and had me open them in a particular order. The first two were books on Andy Warhol, I had been looking for books on him recently. One is a small sort of biography, the other is big and heavy and has 365 pieces of his artwork! Awesomeness. The final gift lay within 61 layers of paper and a CD case...

61 Papers of Christmas

beneath them all was...

The Finish Line

I feel a little bad though, cause I know she spent way more on me than I did on her. I got her the soundtrack to Marie-Antoinette, and avocado slicer she'd been eying, and a couple avocados. My mom says I shouldn't feel bad because she does make more than I do and it's the thought that counts; she also said I could just pay for her dinner some time. Plus she does know that I just had to pay a lot to have my car fixed. I don't know, maybe I'll still buy her the camera case like I'm getting.

I'm still learning my new camera, I like how the paper shot turned out. Ugh, this is the latest I've stayed up in a while, but I'm not tired. I'm watching A Scanner Darkly, I should be in bed though.
