Links from last week: Thanksgiving edition

I haven't done as much web surfing this week but I still came up with what I think is a pretty good list of links for you to read. These pages are mostly Thanksgiving themed, with a little Christmas in there.

• I bookmarked this Babble post on DIY Christmas tree skirts for myself. I don't have a skirt for my tree, poor girl went bottomless last year, it was cold too. I just couldn't find one I really liked. This year I did find one at Hobby Lobby but it was a little pricey, maybe with 21 to choose from here, and my new sewing machine, I can make one?
• Inflation jokes aside, here's a good read on how balloons get chosen for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I'll give you a hint: money.
• Here's another Thanksgiving Parade related post from Mental_Floss. Did you know there used to be an agreement that stores wouldn't put out there Christmas fare until Santa arrived (at the end of the parade, that is)?
• Before you stomp down some 80 year old woman to get the last dancing Elmo, you may want to read this return policy guide. Useful stuff there folks.
• This one's not holiday related, but I think it's especially useful this time of year when you may be more likely to have family and friends over to your house and need to tidy up a bit. Or maybe you need to find a place in your home for new items you get for Christmas.
• And then there's this. Don't do this people, just don't.

Links of the week

You know what's worse than being sick? Getting sicker. You know what's worse than getting sicker? Getting your husband sick. You know what's worse than getting your husband sick? Getting your baby sick. You know what's worse than getting your husband and baby sick? Having to clean old turnip green juice off of your foot 3 times! Three times! Okay, so maybe that's not worse than getting your baby sick, but it's pretty bad.

Anyway, I intended to start this series earlier in the week but sickness took over. Some of you may be familiar with Google Reader and the recent changes they implemented, so you know that you can no longer share blog posts with your friends through Reader. I loved this feature, now they want you to share through Google+. I think it's just to try and get more people to join +, since it hasn't really caught on like they hoped. So, since I can't share posts I like with you through Google Reader anymore, I'll be sharing them in a weekly post such as this. Let me know what you think, and if you have your own blog and share links weekly feel free to comment with the link to that post.

• Tsh at Simple Mom posted some tips on planning a peaceful Christmas. She writes about prioritizing what you want to do as a family, budgets, and making sure that your plans aren't so hectic that you're not having fun.
• Here is a good post on wanting more (attention, acknowledgement, etc) and how we already have "enough".
• This LifeHacker post is about honey and why you should buy local (hint: it's so you actually get honey). We always buy local honey, how about you?
• I just think this post from the "Cool Parents" is neat, I would love to have a random run-in with a reader that I didn't know. I would also love to live in New York, then maybe my blog would be cooler and more people would read it. All the best bloggers live in NY.
• I've been wanting to DIY some Christmas stockings for our little family. Right now we don't have stockings at all. Here is a Babble post with a lot of great DIY Christmas stocking ideas. I also have some on my Christmas pinboard.

Oh, you know what else is terrible? Husband and I managed to eat 23 muffins in 6 days. Yeah.

In lieu of a regular post, seeing as my life is quite hectic right now, I thought I would post a few links to things I have been meaning to post about, some old, some newish.

Caring for Your Introvert: Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am for the most part what one would call introverted. This is a good piece to read if you know any introverts and still an interesting read if you are one yourself. I don't like the title of it though, I don't think we need to be "cared for;" it would be better titled "Understanding Your Introvert," or "How to Act (and Not to Act) Around Introverts."

What Would Jesus Buy?: Trailer for a Morgan Spurlock (of "Supersize Me") film on consumerism. I have not yet seen it, but looks very um...interesting. Check it out.

Super Mario Galaxy in Amsterdam: This site is not in English, but it's the pictures that are great. It's the celebration of the release of Super Mario Galaxy in Amsterdam. The first pic is awesome.

Bake a Book: Gizmodo post about book technology (yes BOOK technology) with thermo-reactive ink. Basically, the pages are blank until you bake the book in the oven, then words show up.

50 Years of Lego: So I missed posting about the birthday of the Lego brick, but here's the timeline (also Gizmodo).

Polaroid to Nix Polaroids. What?: Yep, no more instant photos (aka Polaroids!) from Polaroid. Next thing we know Aunt Jemima will quit making syrup, rain will stop being wet, and we'll here that the John Montagu (look him up if you must) never ate sandwiches.

Defend Your Coffee Habbit: I must have at least 2 cups of coffee every afternoon, if I do not you do not want to be around me. I've used each of these defenses at least once.

Bradley Hathaway Interview: A wonderful interview with Bradley Hathaway from HM Magazine. The best parts are what he says about love, both God's love and romantic love. If you don't know who Bradley Hathaway is, educate yourself, you won't be disappointed.
