Consider this a belated Thanksgiving post, if you will.
We're all moved in our house now, though there's still a lot of unpacking to be done. Today, we get couches! Trust me, you can never be so excited about couches until you're almost 8 months pregnant and have to go over a week without one! There is not a comfortable place to sit here, right now I'm sitting on a bar stool, a bar stool! The seat is made of some form of wicker! There is no back cushion! The bed is actually the most comfortable option at the moment, but I'll just end up falling asleep if I try to sit there for long.
Anyway, when we found out that we couldn't buy a house without 20% down (we have excellent credit, but Shawn already has a mortgage out on another place, which he's now renting out) we were crushed to say the least. At the same time, however, we found out that the place we had a contract on would be a money pit, the structural integrity of the stumps (yes, stumps and logs) holding it up was questionable, so it was doubly good that we were still in some sort of 15 day window in which we could back out without losing much money.
We looked at other options for a while, trying to find some way we would be able to buy. Eventually, we decided we had hit a wall, and so the search for rental options began again.
(Here's where I leave out the part about all of my hurt feelings over Shawn saying he could live anywhere so it didn't matter to him, he just wanted me to have what I want.)
Several times Shawn would get all excited about a place that had one feature he liked, say a nice backyard or a really good price, only to be crushed by my practicality. "It's smaller than our apartment, we need bigger" or "There are no closets" or "The appliances are all well over 30 years old."
We prayed for God to help us find the place that was right for us and to find someone to sublet our apartment. Like always, God came through just in time. We found a very nice house outside of town (in Lloyd, actually) on 5 acres. We were the first people to come look at it, it fit nicely within our price range and I couldn't find anything I didn't like about it (definitely the only place we looked at that met that mark). A week later we found someone to take over our apartment lease.
Oh, and it's on Will Road, how perfect is that?
We moved in the day after Thanksgiving and we are very thankful.
