This is Oliver dog's first toy. His first toy we ever got him; his daddy picked it out.
You can see the end of it a bit here in this picture from one of his first days as a member of our family, when he was just a wee little puppy (okay, he was an 18lb. puppy, but still).

Well, as you can see in the first picture, Oliver dog has finally gnawed one of the ends down so much that there is no longer a knot on that side. This wouldn't be a big deal except that little frayed pieces of rope were falling out and being swallowed.
Now you might be saying, "just throw it away." Easy for you to say, but I cannot do it. For one, it's his first ever toy! Two: he still plays with it. Three: It's the only toy he hasn't destroyed (I don't call this destroyed). Plus, it's the first toy we ever got him!
So, I think I will try to get another piece of rope to put through the rubber, that I can handle, as it will still be the same toy, just a new piece of rope. For now though, after I kept it out of reach for a while, he's been playing with it without shedding many fibers (insert some silly comment about me shedding tears).
