So I'm reading this book God Is Here by Steven Case, actually it's based on Brother Lawrence's The Practice Of The Presence Of God. One particular part really stuck out to me so I thought I'd share.
This particular section is talking about how we are always looking for God and saying things like "help me find You", or asking God to come to us 'cause we need Him here now, but He is here, He's here all around us and in us and in all things, all the time! Mr. Case uses a wonderful analogy for it, which I'll paraphrase:
There's this man, he's getting ready to go to the community pool, he's got everything he needs, towel, sunglasses, sunscreen, ipod, a book, goggles, he's set. So he gets to the pool, finds a nice chair, then gets ready to swim, places his goggles over his eyes and dives in, he swims fiercly straight to the bottom looking, searching, he darts back and forth looking, searching, until he can't anymore. He comes up the surface, takes a deep breath and plunges back under, looking and searching. Others around the pool notice his strange behavior and think, surely he must have lost something. Finally the man gives up. When he gets out of the pool an older man nearby asks, "What did you lose?", he says, "I didn't lose anything", the older man says, "well, what were you looking for then?", the younger man replies, "Water, I was looking for water".
Yeah that is a good point. Kind of related: in mission a lot of the time we act as though we are taking God to people. Isn't he already there? I think sometimes we underestimate what people who aren't Christians know of God.
