Multimedia Tuesday: Making You A Mix

(This post is best viewed here)

Those who follow me on twitter already knew, this week Multimedia Monday had to be Multimedia Tuesday. I'm having some medical issues and found out yesterday I'm going to have to have more tests done, so I wasn't really in the mood for posting. If I hadn't already started this post before this week I probably wouldn't make it at all because it's really hard to think about anything right now. I have reviews I need to write and emails I need to answer, but those things probably won't get done until this weekend at the earliest. And if you're the sender of one of the emails I need to answer or if I haven't responded to your comment on this site, I'm really sorry!

Anyway, on with the show!

Sorry if you expected this week's multimedia post to be about the Olympics, it is not. I am not afraid to be the first one to admit that as a kid the Olympics were my very least favorite thing on television. They took over everything, all of the good shows were put off and postponed, leaving me with nothing to watch while I ate my happy meal on a bed sheet thrown on the floor no more than two feet from the TV.

So while I did enjoy this photo essay of the opening ceremonies on TIME.com, I'm not going to let the Olympics take over another multimedia opportunity.

This week I've made you (yes, you!) a mix. This is something I hope to do again in the future, so please let me know what you think. All of the tracks in this mix are songs from albums released in 2008 that I've been enjoying lately, for a full and regularly updated list of my favorite albums of 2008 check out my list on Lists of Bests. If there's an album you think should be represented here but is not, let me know what I'm missing in the comments.

  1. Sorry you don't feel good. Thanks for the great post. The albums I think are missing are Gnarls Barkley The Odd Couple, which is my favorite of the year; Cat Power Jukebox, although a cover album, is still is very good and the new Beck album, which is a fun and very quick album to listen too. Hope all your tests regarding your health turn out OK.

  2. Cool, thanks for the tracks.

Have you heard of muxtape? It allows you to do share an online "mixtape" too. You just upload and point your friends to your link, instead of having to input all the html.

    Cheers!

  3. My name is Christopher Cambell and I am a Junior at Moody Bible Institute, studying Communication. I am doing something of a research project and was wondering if you would like to participate. The study is of Christian females who blog online. Your name will never be used, but your words may be quoted (as an anonymous surveyor of course) in a paper. If you are interested, please email me your responses to these questions at CHRISTOPHER.N.CAMBELL@MOODY.EDU

    1) If someone were to ask you to describe yourself, how would you describe yourself?

    2) Is this affected by your affiliation with Christianity? If so, how?

    3) What is the purpose of your blogging online?

    4) Do you believe the purpose is consistently accomplished?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you and have a nice day,
    Christopher Cambell

  4. I'll have to check those out, Scott, thanks.

David, yes, I have heard of muxtape. See the last part of this post. It does work for me now, somewhat, but I still don't really "get it." Do I need a new sign-in name every time I want to make a new mix, or am I just supposed to get rid of the first? I really didn't have to do much html for this post anyway, just audio syntax for the wordpress audio player plugin. The Amazon links were done with an amazon plugin.

  5. Haha woops.

Yeah, I suppose they expect us to change up our mixes.

So how loud did you scream when you saw my mentioning of Muxtape?

  6. It was a silent scream, I'm good at those :)

  7. I forgot to mention (and now just remembered) that there was two others I was going to list. One being an actress (Zooey Deschanel) and a particularly good indie rock guy (M. Ward) who teamed up and put out a pretty decent record as She & Him entitled 'Vol. 1'. If you have not heard it, you should, as it is very good. The other is Girl Talk with the album 'Feed the Animals'. This album is quite good, even if it is a bit insane for what the 'music' actually is, as is it just samples from different records layered on top of one another to somehow create a cohesive track. It is like listening to a couple of radios that got stuck on scan. A very interesting listen. Also, you can download that one for free at 74.124.198.47/illegal-art.net/__girl__talk___feed__the__anima.ls___/ Also, hope that even with the recent diagnosis, that things are going OK for you.
